How to use it

  1. Type or paste the text you want to make small.

  3. Tap a style to copy the tiny text, then paste it into a bio, name, message or caption.

How tiny text works

Plain text has no font size, so the small text generator uses characters that are small by design. Tiny text is made of superscript letters from phonetic alphabets, where a raised ʰ marks a puff of air after a sound. Small caps ᴀʙᴄ are capital shapes at the height of a lowercase letter, also from phonetics. Subscript letters and numbers sit below the line, the way the 2 does in H₂O.

Each one is a separate character, so the text stays small when you copy and paste it.

Superscript and subscript generator

Superscript covers almost the whole alphabet. Lowercase q and the capitals C, F, Q, S, X, Y and Z have no superscript that phones widely support, so the tiny style uses the small lowercase letter instead, or the lookalike ᑫ for q. Numbers, plus, minus, equals and brackets work too, for things like x² or footnote marks.

Subscript is patchier. Unicode only has subscript versions of a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v and x, so b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y and z stay normal size. All ten digits work.

Small text on Discord, Instagram and in games

Discord has its own small text: start a line with -# and a space and it shows as small grey subtext. That's easier to read and search than tiny letters, so use it for messages and keep the generator for your display name and status.

Tiny text and small caps fit neatly into an Instagram or TikTok bio. Whether a game accepts small letters in a player name depends on the game: many only allow plain letters and numbers, and they reject or replace anything else.

FAQ

How do I make my text small?

Type it in the box above and tap a small text style to copy it. Tiny text, small caps and subscript all paste as ordinary characters.

What's the difference between superscript and subscript?

Superscript letters are raised above the line, like ˢᵘᵖᵉʳ, and subscript letters sit below it, like ₛᵤbₛcᵣᵢₚₜ. Superscript covers far more of the alphabet.

Why are some letters normal size in subscript?

Unicode has no subscript b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y or z, so those letters stay as they are. Use tiny text or small caps if you need every letter small.

How do I write small text on Discord?

In a message, start the line with -# and a space for Discord's small subtext. For a display name or status, copy tiny text or small caps from this page.

How do I type superscript numbers like ² and ³?

Type the numbers above and copy the tiny text style. Every digit from 0 to 9 has a superscript and a subscript version.
