How Instagram fonts work

Instagram only offers its own fonts for text you place on Stories and Reels. Your bio, name, captions and comments use the app's single font. These Instagram fonts get around that by swapping each letter for a Unicode character that looks styled, so cursive, bold or small caps stay that way when you paste them into your profile.

Fonts for your Instagram bio and name

Your bio has 150 characters, so use a font for one line, such as your name or what you do, and keep the rest plain. Cursive, small caps and tiny text look neat in a bio. Bold fonts work for your name, but people search Instagram by name, and search may not match fancy letters, so keep your name plain if you want to be found.

Your @username can't use these fonts at all: it only accepts letters, numbers, full stops and underscores.

Caption headings and bio borders

A bold or underlined first line works like a heading in a long caption, and symbols such as ✧, ☾ or ╰┈➤ make tidy bullet points in a bio. For an image post, design the text in Canva or another editor instead: there you can use real fonts, and the text becomes part of the picture.

FAQ

How do I change the font on Instagram?

Instagram has no font option for bios, names or captions. Type your text above, copy an Instagram font and paste it into your profile or post.

How do I get a different font in my Instagram bio?

Copy a style from the bio fonts group, open Edit profile, and paste it into the Bio field. It counts toward the 150-character limit like any other text.

Can I use these fonts in my Instagram username?

No. Usernames only allow letters, numbers, full stops and underscores. Fancy fonts work in your name, bio, captions and comments.

Will Instagram fonts show up on every phone?

Cursive, bold, italic and small caps show almost everywhere. Rarer symbols can turn into boxes on older phones, so check your profile on another device.

Can I use Instagram fonts in Stories?

Yes, you can paste them into a Story's text, but Stories also have their own fonts to pick from, which are easier to read.
