Bold text without a bold button
Facebook posts, Instagram captions and YouTube comments have no formatting options, so the only way to make text bolder is to use different characters. Unicode includes complete bold alphabets and bold digits, originally for maths. This bold text generator swaps each letter for its bold version, and because the result is ordinary text, it stays bold wherever you paste it.
Bold letters on Facebook and LinkedIn
On Facebook, a bold first line gives a long post a heading that people notice while scrolling. On LinkedIn, bold sans text is used for section titles inside a post, such as 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱. Bold the few words that matter and keep the rest plain: a whole post in bold letters is harder to read, and search inside the app may not find words written in these characters.
Use real bold where it exists
Some apps have their own bold formatting, and it's better to use it there: screen readers read it normally and search still works. In WhatsApp, put the text between asterisks, *like this*. In Discord and Reddit, use two asterisks, **like this**. In Google Docs and Word, select the text and press Ctrl+B, or Cmd+B on a Mac.
FAQ
How do I make text bold on Facebook?
Facebook has no bold button for posts or comments. Type your text above, copy a bold style and paste it into your post.
Does bold text work in Instagram bios?
Yes. The bold letters paste into your Instagram name, bio, captions and comments, though not into your @username.
What's the difference between bold serif and bold sans?
Bold serif 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 has small feet on the letters, like a book font. Bold sans 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 has none and looks like most app text, so it blends in better on social media.
Is bold text bad for accessibility?
It can be. Screen readers may read each bold letter out separately or skip it. Use it for a word or a heading, and use the app's own bold formatting when it has one.
