Cursive font generator

How the cursive text generator works

Unicode has two complete cursive alphabets, a light script 𝒶𝒷𝒸 and a bold script 𝓪𝓫𝓬, added so maths papers could use script letters as symbols. The cursive text generator swaps every letter you type for its script version, and because the result is ordinary text, the cursive letters stay cursive wherever you paste them.

Eleven of the light script letters, ℬ ℰ ℱ ℋ ℐ ℒ ℳ ℛ ℯ ℊ ℴ, were already in Unicode as physics and maths symbols before the rest of the alphabet arrived, so they come from a different block and can look a little different from their neighbours in some fonts.

Cursive letters for names, bios and Discord

Cursive suits a name, a sign-off or a short quote. Bold cursive is easier to read on a small screen, and the cursive with bold capitals style gives a name a stronger first letter, like 𝓜ℴ𝓁𝓁𝓎.

On Instagram and TikTok, cursive letters work in your name, bio and captions but not in your @username. On Discord they work in messages, your display name and server nicknames, but not in your username.

Handwriting-style letters

The handwriting-style group isn't cursive in the Unicode sense. Those letters, like ꪶꪮꪮρꪗ and ʂաíɾӀվ, are borrowed from alphabets such as Tai Viet, Georgian and Armenian because their curls look like joined-up writing. They're decorative: they may show as boxes on older phones, and search and screen readers can't read them as English.

Cursive in Word, Google Docs and Canva

If the app you're writing in has a font menu, choose a script font there instead. It joins the letters properly, prints well and keeps your text searchable. The cursive text on this page is for the places that give you no choice of font.
